This morning in my Bible-reading and prayer time, I read Proverbs 14.26, one of my favorite proverbs. ‘In the fear of the LORD one has strong confidence, and his children will have a refuge.’ Biblical fear breeds biblical confidence! But the blessing doesn’t stop there. It extends to one’s children. ‘…and his children will have a refuge.’
Today is the birthday of my wife of ten years. So, as I was reading Proverbs 14.26, I was especially moved to pray these things for her and to thank God for her. Emma is a woman who fears the Lord — she holds God in highest respect, she submits to his leading in her life, she listens to him by reading his Word regularly. And because of this, there’s a stability and a confidence about Emma that I love and admire. She has ‘strong confidence.’ She knows that God rules the world and is in charge of her life, and she knows that she will live with him forever in the new creation. Emma’s fear of the Lord is a large part of why our three children feel safe and blessed and loved in our home. They have a refuge. They’re being taught wisdom and they’re regularly experiencing grace from a woman who herself learns wisdom and experiences grace from God.
This morning, our two kids who were up early piled into bed beside us and gave their mom a birthday hand massage. And as I lay there looking at my family I was feeling thankful to God for what he’s doing in us. Thank you, God, for my God-fearing wife.
