My heart is filled with gratitude to God when I look down over the faces of the men and women who serve as our PCF Elders and PCF Deacons. They’re listed here on our leaders’ page of the PCF website. And now there’s even more to be thankful for, because we’ve added Anne Nason and Steve Poirier to our Deacons.
I can’t even begin to calculate the hours invested by these volunteer leaders, as well as the prayers, the careful thought, the pastoral care, and the practical acts of service and love. One Deacon prays every day for the practical, financial needs of our church on his drive to work. I saw another Deacon recently give up part of his day off — cheerfully and quietly — to come to a church event and serve in a way few noticed, but which was crucial to the functioning of our church. Yet another Deacon has taken a newcomer under her wing, and sits with her every Sunday, making her feel welcome. One of our Elders arrives at church more often than not at 7.30am and leaves at 1pm. That’s a 5-1/2 hour commitment on his day off. Another Elder — who’s already doing loads at the church — serves as an usher, because… well… because he loves Christ and his heart is to serve. All the Elders bear the weight of pastoral concerns cheerfully, wisely, and graciously. Believe me, I could go on and on about these men and women.
I know lots of what these men and women do, but there’s probably more I don’t know than I do know. The truth is that no one except God will ever know all that our leaders do. God sees and knows and is pleased. The Apostle Paul said of his own ministry, ‘Just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not to please man, but to please God who tests our hearts’ (1 Thessalonians 2.4). I know that the heart-testing God is pleased with the service of these wonderful men and women. I couldn’t be more thankful for them.
Please take a few minutes to look down over these names and faces, and thank God for the leaders he has given our church.
