The Advent season is a great time to read excellent children’s books about the meaning of Christmas. The really good ones will shape your children and give you benefit and pleasure at the same time.
Our family enjoys Sally Lloyd-Jones’ excellent Song of the Stars: A Christmas Story (Sally Lloyd-Jones is also the author of the much-loved Jesus Storybook Bible). Song of the Stars includes superb paintings by Alison Jay, and the text is simple, worshipful and beautiful. It points us to the true meaning of Christmas.
I read it the other night to Henry as his bed-time story, and was deeply moved again by the closing line:
sleeping under the stars
that he made.’
So, dear readers, Tolle lege!
