God is the source of all giving
In Sunday’s sermon I tried to teach a God-centered view of giving — God is the source and the goal of all giving. That he is the source of all giving is an awesome, liberating, humbling, strengthening truth.
It’s worth meditating upon.
Acts 17.25 says the breath in your lungs is a gift from God. Acts 17.25: ‘And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else.’
Psalm 145.15 says that God gives you the food you eat. Psalm 145.15: ‘The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food at the proper time.’
The water you drink and the clothes you’re wearing right now are a gift from God (Matthew 6.33).
Your capacity to understand Christian truth is a gift from God (2 Timothy 2.7).
If you have been saved from hell and are destined for heaven, that is a gift from God (Ephesians 2.8) and so is the Holy Spirit who’s living in you (Luke 11.13).
Your perseverance in the Christian life until the day you die is a gift from God (Romans 15.5).
All the money you have is from God. Deuteronomy 8.18: ‘Remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth.’
And God never stops giving! He gave to you even while you slept last night (Psalm 127.2).
In fact, not only does everyone reading this email constantly receive gifts from God, everyone reading this email is a gift from God. Psalm 127.3 says that children are a gift from the Lord to their parents – you are all gifts from God to your parents!
God is the source and goal of all giving.
