This is a phenomenally good, super helpful article on parenting from Christian Smith, a highly-respected sociologist. I got a bit emotional reading it. It points all of us as parents in some very important directions. If every parent at PCF read and absorbed this article, our children would benefit immensely.
Among the many helpful things Christian Smith says, note the major impact of parents on the religious lives of their children, the importance of the parents’ daily religious practice (not just their profession, but their actual practice), the importance of parents who weave their faith naturally into everyday life and conversation, and the significance of children knowing other believing adults in their faith community.
